HOW DO YOU REMOVE A RUSTY FORD TRUCK BED? OIL CITY BUMPER

HOW DO YOU REMOVE A RUSTY FORD TRUCK BED? OIL CITY BUMPER has Rust free truck beds for sale at oilcitybumper.com.

before you can install a new bed you have purchased for your truck, you will need to remove the old one. Depending on how rusty or smashed your old Ford Super Duty Truck bed is, will determine how you need to remove it.

In most cases, your Ford Super Duty bed will be attached by 8 bed bolts that are mounted to clips on the frame. You can always try to remove the bed bolts with a T50 Torx bit attached to wrench or impact tool. Due to heavy rust on the bed, you probably will not be able to go this route.

One way to get the bolts off is to cut the head of the bolt off with a grinder tool. a 4 1/2 grinder will usually do the trick with a few new thin discs in case one isn't enough. you can cut an "X" on the top of the bolt and knock the head of the bolt off that way. If your bed is rusty enough you can just cut a hole in the bed around the bolt and then cut the head off the bolt later with the cut off wheel or a sawzall. This method is usually the best way to go.

Another way to get the bed off is using a torch. If you are not a professional or have used a torch before, I would go with the first way previously mentioned.

The last thing you will need to uninstall is the fuel filler neck. there will be three smaller screws or bolts holding on the filler neck to the bed. These are located inside the fuel door on the driver side and can be accessed from there. This will also be a good time to inspect your filler neck for heavy rust and fuel leaks to see if it will need to be replaced as well.
